Students construct Fish Ponds

Diploma students at the Fisheries Training Institute (FTI) have embarked on constructing aquaculture ponds as part of their real-life project work. This initiative is a critical step in bridging the gap between theoretical learning and practical application in sustainable fish farming.
The pond construction project provides students with hands-on experience in designing, digging, and maintaining aquaculture ponds, equipping them with essential skills for their future careers.
“This hands-on approach is invaluable,” said Mr. Kakuru JB, who mentors the students. “It ensures that our graduates leave with not just knowledge but also practical expertise that directly applies to Uganda’s aquaculture industry.”
The project is expected to boost student confidence and reinforce the importance of sustainable practices in aquaculture. It also aligns with FTI’s mission to produce well-rounded professionals capable of addressing the challenges of food security and environmental conservation.
The success of this initiative positions FTI as a leader in experiential learning, fostering innovation and real-world problem-solving among its students.
