Boat Building & Marine Mechanics (BBMM)

Boat building is steeped in tradition, yet it is still evolving due to advances in technology and materials.

Fisheries Training Institute offers a two (2) year Certificate Programme in boat building focusing on boating technology, repair and maintenance, as well as construction of yachts and boats made from wooden or composite materials.

Assistant Naval Architect

Outboard Marine Technician

Self Employed

Assistant Marine Diesel Mechanic

The Certificate programme is meant to last for two (2) academic years. An academic year consists of two (2) Semesters each of seventeen (17) weeks duration {Fifteen (15) weeks of teaching and continuous assessment and two (2) weeks of written examinations}.

Field attachment/Industrial training is one of the core modules taking four (4) weeks during the first year vacation.

Students can upgrade to a Diploma for a period of one (1) year after the Certificate Programme.

Entry Requirements

Certificate in Boat Building and Marine Mechanics 

The Candidates should have ‘O’ Level Certificate with passes in Mathematics, English, Physics and Chemistry.
Passes in Wood work and Metal work are added advantage.
